Important:
On many BMW M47 / M57 diesel engines, the swirl flaps no longer function properly with increasing mileage due to dirt and soot deposits. As a result, the flaps can break and fall into the combustion chamber.

In order to prevent engine damage, you can replace the originally installed swirl flaps with our precisely fitting plugs including the appropriate Viton O-rings. Our plugs and the Viton O-rings guarantee a long service life compared to the cheap materials of most other suppliers.

When replacing the swirl flaps with the plugs, you do not have to worry about engine malfunctions because the swirl flaps only provide a minimal amount of air swirling of the intake air in the cold start phase. The change in the engine run is so small that it is not perceived by most customers. But you have the certainty that the installed swirl flaps can not break and fall into the combustion chamber.

What size do I need?
In the 4-cylinder engines (M47 ..), the flaps always have a diameter of 22mm.
In the case of the 6-cylinder engines (M57 ..), the manufacturer made a change in the size of the swirl flaps in the course of 2004. As a guide, therefore:
22 mm diameter for vehicles up to 2004
32 mm diameter for vehicles from year 2004

From our experience we know, however, that depending on the model, there may already be deviations from this rule.
Therefore, you should check the required size on the vehicle.
You can determine the diameter without removing the swirl flap.
If the swirl flaps on your intake bridge are mounted with their screw axis parallel to the push rod of the swirl flap adjustment, then 22mm flaps have been installed. (Pic.1)

If the screw axis should be turned by approx. 40 ° to the push rod, flaps with the diameter 32mm were installed (pic.2).

You can also check the screw distance (pic.3)

What are the disadvantages of removing or closing the swirl flaps?

Almost all of our customers report that there are virtually no significant changes or disadvantages from replacing the swirl flaps. Neither in the lower speed range nor in consumption. The chance of a major engine failure should more than compensate for any minor changes in driving performance.
